Emirates-based airlines have strictened their policies on power banks which makes it mandatory that passengers check the battery’s capacity, storage capacity and quantity requirements prior to traveling. Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai and Air Arabia restrict the use of portable chargers on flights and power banks are strictly prohibited from checked baggage.
The measures are intended to minimize the risk associated with lithium batteries. If a battery can suffer from thermal runaway, leading to rapid temperature rise that could cause explosions, smoke, or the release of toxic gasses. The ability to access the device will allow cabin crews to react quickly in the event of an emergency.
Emirates Power Bank Rules
Emirates allows passengers to carry a power bank that has less than 100 watts. The capacity rating should be clearly displayed within the unit. Since the 1st of October 2025, travelers are not able to utilize a power bank to charge their phones, tablets or other electronic devices during the flight. Additionally, they are not allowed to charging their devices through the plane’s USB port or socket for power.
The power bank should be kept within the passenger cabin. It can be kept in the seat pocket or an enclosed bag that can be placed beneath the seat to the front. It should not be placed in an overhead locker or inside checked baggage.
Etihad Airways Power Bank Rules
Etihad also permits the use of one battery per passenger. It must be that is rated at less than 100Wh. The rating should be clearly stamped, embossed or marked. The device should be kept off and secured against short circuits and accidental activation. It should be kept in the original packaging or protected case.
Utilizing a portable power source at the airport is not permitted. The passengers in economy class should keep it in the seat, or inside your seat’s pocket. For Business and first class passengers, you should put it in the storage compartment. Power banks with more than 100Wh cannot be accepted.
Flydubai Power Bank Rules
Flydubai is subject to similar rules. One power bank with a maximum of 100Wh per person is allowed. It must be shut off, shielded from short circuits, and stored in the hand luggage.
The passengers aren’t able to use it charge a different device and also connect it with an power supply of the aircraft. It should be kept in the underside of the chair or inside the seat pocket, rather than in an overhead locker. Any power bank with a capacity of more than 100Wh is banned.
Air Arabia Power Bank Rules
Air Arabia differs slightly by permitting a maximum in power banks of 2 per person and each one is restricted to 100Wh. Both are required to be kept in the cabin bag, at a minimum and kept inside the pocket of your seat or in an under-seat bag.
The devices are not able to be used during the flight nor recharged through the power source of the aircraft. Batteries and power banks are not allowed in baggage that is checked.
What Passengers Should Do Before Flying?
Travelers must check their power bank for visible Wh rating, and avoid carrying swollen, damaged or unlabeled devices. The battery terminals must be secured and the charger should be kept in a place that is easily accessible throughout the trip.
Passengers are advised to read the airline’s official baggage guidelines prior to departure especially when codeshare or connecting flights since airline and airport regulations could differ.
